Wildoly D/S Desk Key

Here is an original Wildoly brand desk lock key:

This is a picture of what we put it on, stamped with their code number "422":

[Note: specs have not been noted for making these locks from scratch at the time of this writing (16Jul'15)]

The lock was not present when we attempted to duplicate this key (though hopefully the mills are wide [and sloppy] enough to allow it to go INTO the keyhole).  Andy tried TWO methods to duplicate this key.  The first one was modified on the Framon machine by cutting .015" off both sides of the key (making it .255" wide), then laying it flat in the HPC manual machine chucks (marked with an "F" on the other side).

The second was lined up by the mills of both keys on the HPC manual machine, lined up by the shoulders, and then cut normally.

If this doesn't work (as of 16Jul'15), hopefully Mr, Travous from the College of Pharmacy will be able to bring in the lock these go to so we can make whatever modifications are needed.  Please make note of them here.

National D/S Desk Key

This first picture is of a "001" double sided key for a National brand desk lock:

...and THIS is a picture of the key that was produced as a copy for it:

It seems duplication can be achieved by shaving ~.008" off of both sides of the blank (using the Framon machine, thus bringing the blank to a .260" width) and lining the original and key blank along the bottom of the chucks (similar to the Friant double sided keys).  The cuts for "001", based on the Friant specs are 13122 (as we see more keys from this series arrive, please take note of the cuts where possible).

Cyber Lock Keys

Due to the modifications that were still needed for this, it is (at this time) recommended that the price remain $4.99 per copy to make these.

In May of 2015, we received a request for copies of a key marked "CC822" for some podiums at BJC.  A lock was brought in for us to test our copies (similar to the lock shown in the next two pictures; this one had a code of "CC0001").

The first time we tried Ilco #252/HD108; it was lined up on a manual machine and ground down on both sides to go in easier (originally charged $4.99 per copy).

The latest time (June of 2015), we tried some other blanks and found Ilco #X179/SUZ12 and #X256/YM47 will work when modified by 1) cutting ~.015 inches from both sides and 2) cutting down the shoulders, duplicating them on a manual machine [failure to cut down the shoulders will not allow the key to go in as far as they should].  After one is cut on these blanks, second generation copies can be made from these 1st generation ones by lining them up according to their side mills.  Due to the modifications that were still needed for this, it is (at this time) recommended that the price remain $4.99 per copy to make these.

Also, it is good to note that Easy Keys (easykeys.com) has this series of keys and the blanks are available from them.  If this becomes more popular, it may be time to order a sample or two and see if we can find a corresponding Ilco number.

Chinese Scooter Notes

Below is a picture of a typical key for a Chinese Scooter/Pocket Bike:

According to some entries in the Chinese Scooter Club Internet forum [http://chinesescoots.forumwise.com/chinesescoots-post-131151.html], the YH37 (X69) blank can work in this (should be able to use the YH47/X119 blank as well based on the fact that I used them to fill an order for ten copies of a Kawasaki Mule key; we had 10 of neither but combined they came close...and both worked).

Also, from past experience I have seen the X103/KA14 (for Kawasaki) and sometimes the X121/DC3 and X54/DC1 (Old Mitsubishi).

Possible Key Blanks to Try:

Motorad Gas Cap Keys

Below is a sample key for the Motorad brand gas caps:

On Tuesday, 21Oct'14, we were presented with said sample key AND its corresponding gas cap.  This next picture is what we used to duplicate it:

Another version of the original key has been seen which seems to be a mirror image of it.  If one gets a chance to experiment and try duplicating it on an Ilco X246/HD105, please make note of its success or failure.

Friant D/S Desk Lock Keys

This first picture is of a "W012" key for a Friant brand desk lock:

Specs for cutting these by code (usually done by decoding the lock as we do not have en entire series on record yet):

  • 1st-- .100
  • Spcg-- .090  [.100 - .190 - .280 - .370 - .460 - .550 (- .640 - .730)] 
    • 1- .260
    • 2- .240
    • 3- .220
    • (the 7th cut at .640 would either be for giving a reference point to trim the tip of the key [using a "2" depth] or to provide a control cut for an extractor key, at which point the 8th cut at .730 would be the reference point for trimming the tip of the key)

Duplication can be achieved by shaving ~.008" off of both sides of the blank (using the Framon machine, thus bringing the blank to a .260" width) and lining the original and key blank along the bottom of the chucks.

Durable Key Box Keys

This is a "Durable" brand mounted key box.  It uses a key that looks like THIS one:
























The Federal Reserve Bank of St Louis is using these and has requested copies be made of them.  At the time of this writing it was found that the Taylor #117 (Ilco #YH48) will work if ~.033 of an inch is shaved off of both sides of the key.  Here are pictures of the keys we worked with:
